Le Donon, the sacred mountain of the French Vosges, where the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine adjoin each other.
It`s been an incredible feeling standing up there.
This place was already considered to be sacred way back in prehistoric times and later the Romans dedicated it to their god Mercury.
Napoleon III ordered a replica of an ancient temple to be built on the summit plateau at an altitude of 1000 meters, which still stands there today.
Somehow you can`t shake the feeling that this plateau has something artificial about it, as if it had been built from gigantic stone slabs and partially huge boulders that look like worked megaliths can also be found up there.

The Fish Mouth at the Hohe Fels (High Rock) is a rock formation on the Kapellenberg (Chapel Hill) high above the town of Calw in the northern Black Forest, Germany.
It was built artificially and is attributed to the Celts. This means that it must be at least 2000 years old or more.
As already mentioned in earlier posts, often modern war memorials are found near such ancient places.
I don`t know why that is so, but there must be a connection.
This one here is inscribed with an excerpt from Friedrich Hebbel`s poem `Requiem`:
Soul, do not forget them,
Soul, do not forget the dead!
Does it refer to the fallen soldiers of past wars, or who is really meant…?

Today the last series of pictures from the Sea of Rocks (German: Felsenmeer) near the village of Lautertal in Germany.
And again I have discovered some fabulous structures.
One of them is the so-called "Ship", a more than 12 meter long carved rock, which is attributed to the ancient Romans.
It is said to be an unfinished piece of stonework that was abandoned and then left there.
However, it does look kind of finished to me with the chisel marks all over it, which almost appear to be deliberate decorations.

Today I have another small set of photos from the Sea of Rocks (German: Felsenmeer) near the village of Lautertal in the Odenwald Forest, Germany. See also some of my earlier posts about that place (count back 7,12 and 15).
Besides the actual Sea of Rocks, there are many other things to discover in the surrounding forest.
For example, the remains of Roman stone cutting from 2000 years ago, but also religious standing stones or menhirs, which in my opinion are older and not of Roman origin.

The Devil`s Mill is the local mountain of Loffenau village in the northern Black Forest, Germany, standing at an elevation of 908 meters. Along its slopes, you`ll find the intriguing Devil`s Chambers, a cave formation created through the erosion of layers of sandstone with varying degrees of hardness. This unique geological feature exudes an aura of mystery and gloom. It is therefore not surprising that it was previously associated with the devil.
Atop the mountain, a hiking path stretches for approximately 2 km, adorned with an assortment of peculiarly shaped stone blocks.
According to a historical legend, it is said that a stone mill was constructed by the devil himself at this location, only to be demolished following a lost wager. The remnants of the mill can still be found scattered in the vicinity.
Could there be a possibility of some truth in this narrative? Instead of attributing it to the devil, could it be that an ancient civilization, stigmatized as pagan and devilish, once erected their megalithic structures in this location? In any case, what can be seen here bears resemblance to megalithic ruins found in various parts of the world.
Those who have been following my posts are aware that historical boundaries frequently coincide with ancient pagan sites. And "Bingo", the hiking path here was just such a borderline in the past.

Located above the community of Gernsbach-Reichental in the northern Black Forest, Germany, the Orgelfelsen stands as a remarkable natural monument.
This rock formation, made from granite, reaches a height of 40 meters and spans 80 meters in width.
"Orgelfelsen" translates to "Organ Rock" in English. This name likely originates from the remarkable towers that jut out, resembling the pipes of an organ.
I am not knowledgeable about its historical background or any potential ancient spiritual significance it may hold. Nonetheless, it is a captivating location with a unique vibe.

Continuing to share my impressions of Mont Saint-Michel above the municipality of Saint-Jean-Saverne, France.
As depicted in my previous post, beneath the summit plateau where Saint Michael`s Chapel stands, lies the enigmatic Fairy Grotto. Just above, with only the grotto`s ceiling separating them, resides the Druid Circle, also known as the Witches` Dance Place.
There are other exciting things in the nearby surroundings, such as the waterfall rock in the middle of the forest, and cart ruts on an ancient road that ascends the hill at a remarkable 23% incline, leading to a former oppidum (fortified Celtic site).

Mont St. Michel above the town of Saint-Jean-Saverne in Alsace, France is a sanctuary dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, which is expressed in a pilgrimage church built on the mountain in the 16th century.
Impressive is the so-called Fairy Grotto, a cave covered with ancient carving marks, directly below the sandstone summit plateau where the church is located.
According to legend, this place was once home to witches.
A coffin-like depression in the rock floor, called the Witches` Hole, had certainly served cultic purposes in the past.
Archangel Michael is often depicted as a dragon slayer, piercing the beast with a lance.
In a figurative sense, this means that in such places the hero symbolically defeats the dragon, uniting the forces of the sun and the earth. These sites are locations of extraordinary energies, a point of connection between the earthly and the celestial.
